School has oficially started and my schedule has settled down a bit. Things on the old blog will be getting back to normal.

The Day Has Come
It finally happened.
Kinley decided she was afraid of the dark.
It has happened with all of my kids right around this age. I guess she's right on target.
All three of my kids have slept in pitch black rooms with their doors shut from birth onward. They've never had nightlights or doors cracked open or even curtains open. They've never slept in a bassinet in our room or in a crib anywhere except in their very own bedroom.
But when all of them have been somewhere around 3 years old they have decided that suddenly they are afraid. I guess they get wise to the ways of the world and lose a tiny bit of their innocence. They become aware of the scary things that are said to be out there in the dark and they want some light.
Last night, for the first time ever in her existence, Kinely slept with a night light. She slept just fine and it was no big deal. Just another milestone that I had forgotten to expect.
Now that I think about it I'm sure that in a few months she'll be asking for us to leave the door open too. Yet another sign that she is growing up.

Home At Last
We are home from our 10 day vacation to the East Coast. We had a great time and I've got a lot of stories and pics to share with you all.....but not yet.
I'm still slogging through the laundry and catching up on all of my correspondence. We still ahve to do a little bit of school supply shopping and of course mowing and weed eating. Next week I'll get to the vacation.

Incredulity
Cainan is a thinker. He is always analyzing things and trying to make sense of them in his little 6 year old brain. This is his most recent discovery.....
Cainan: When you get a movie from the video store do you have to pay?
Me: Yes.
Cainan: But when you take it back then you get your money back, right?
Me: Nope.
Cainan: But you're giving it back to them. Why don't they give back your money?
Me: You are paying to rent it.
Cainan; But you're not gonna keep it!
Me: Yeah, I know.
Cainan: Well that's just dumb!

A Day at the Beach
Earlier this summer we went to the beach at Carlyle Lake to swim.
It was practice for our real trip to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean coming up tomorrow.
It's a good thing we did too, because Kinley was NOT fond of the sand. It was too hot and too squishy. The waves scared her. We're talking waves 4 inches high.
We played for a while on the very edge of the water and then slowly went out deeper and deeper. By the end of or visit she was scaring me by going out until she could barely keep her head above water.
Hopefully she'll remember how much fun she had when we hit the real surf tomorrow.

Finally!!
Look what McCormick finally figured out.....
Sometimes you want to pour and sometimes you want to sprinkle....but you NEVER want to break your fingernails popping the little sifter cover off the top of the spice jar.

Thank you McCormick....unfortunately the spices at Aldi are cheaper....so I'll just have to keep breaking my fingernails (or my teeth) every time I bake.
